Chef Adams & Destroy Me
Hey folks,
Thanks for the spins and love for Destroy Me, these last few weeks. I filmed a little video talking about the origins of the song earlier this week; you can find that HERE. Following up on that, I think it’s time to shine some of that light on the songs creator and original singer, Chef Adams; a local legend, regional star and part of the cream of the Canadian Country music crop.
Firstly, you should know that Destroy Me is one of my all-time favourite “lost” Country songs. Written and originally recorded by Chef Adams, it first appeared on Chef’s, ‘Singer/Songwriter’ album from 1969 on the Paragon label.
Chef Adams (Adam Edward Semeniuk), was born in 1929 on a farm near Sturgis, SK and made his name in Toronto as a Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist, Promoter and Producer with a career spanning 60 years. Adams recorded for Arc, Paragon, Marathon, Boot, Cheyenne, Canalta, Quality Records for a total of 12 albums, 18 singles, 2 eight tracks, 4 cassettes and 2 CD's. Notable Television and Radio appearances included the WWVA Jamboree in Wheeling, West Virginia, The Mainstreet Jamboree in Hamilton and the CBC's Country Hoedown
When planning the song selection for the record, I knew without a doubt that we’d be including a song from Chef Adams catalogue. ‘The Truck Driver’ was another from the aforementioned album that was in consideration but if you’re at all aware of my musical preferences then you know I’m a sucker for a barroom, Honky-Tonk shuffle and a sad sack drinking song like Destroy Me.
Destroy Me is available for stream, purchase or viewing everywhere one does this kind of thing and my new record, Lost Country is comin’ right at ya on October 27.
Thanks for following along.
