Town Song

Comin’ Right At Ya with another new Single this Friday. Slowly releasing some bits & pieces of music we recorded back in September before I get down to it with a new full album later this year. This time, I’m back with Lost Country and our take on a municipal hit written by pal, Andrew Neville.

For nearly 20 years, Andrew Neville & The Poor Choices have been a name synonymous with the independent Roots music scene here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Especially with those who frequent the little honky-tonk down at 234 Main Street. They’ve been one of very few bands locally who perform Country music in the traditional sense of the word. But… they’ve always kind of done it their own way. They’re as much a Punk band as they are a Country band and Neville, well he’s as much (or more) of a Songwriter than most folks you know who regularly dance in that arena. Paired with the Poor Choices, it’s about as raw as it gets. A real dog fight from the stage. It comes at ya quick and ferocious with a big bite and then they’ve gone before you even know what gnawed your limbs off. And although I only just visually observe now, the fact remains, Andrew Neville & The Poor Choices are excellent to tip ‘em back to. And, with.

You could count Town Song as a “signature song” in Andrew’s catalogue much in the way you would with Brand New Song, Let ‘r Buck, Two at-a Time and the Stupid Fuckin’ Things I’ve done. The song and the band were in their infancy when it appeared as a cut on their self-titled 2005 debut. Over the years on the High & Lonesome Club stage, in barrooms across Canada and during those 10+ years of a local Wednesday night residency, new shapes and sounds developed. After having strong success recording and performing another Neville-penned number (Big Freightliner), we introduced our version of Town Song to the Lost Country show in 2019. it too, continues to shift and morph into what we’re fixin’ to release this Friday. As we prepared material for the Clifton St. recording sessions last September, I thought it wise for us to finally cut a version of this tune. Once you get ears on it, I think you’ll agree that Town Song stands alone in the Lost Country recorded canon in terms of feel, crunchiness and overall grease.

It’s big weekend ahead for Lost Country. I’m humbled to have been asked to take part in this weekends 22nd Anniversary celebration at the Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club. Thank you, John. This Saturday, January 14, we’ll be down there in 5-piece formation with a double electric guitar assault of Grant Siemens & Kevin Bell, Ryan Menard on the Fender Bass, Joanna Miller on the Drums & Vox and yours truly as Country music carnival barker.  Times Change(d) anniversary, yeah. A weekend to share in the love, music and community spirit that John has facilitated over the years. Seems fitting to release Andrew’s song in midst of it all. If Neville himself and his band of Poor Choices aren’t on stage for this years celebration then we’ll do our community service and respectfully sing a song (or two) of theirs to bring a piece of that magic to the festivities.

Stream, steal or support Town Song anywhere you do that kind of a thing on January 13.

See you downtown.
